This page contains links to software of various kinds: applications, applets and shareware directories that may be helpful for analysis and design work.

Windows Software

  • Combustion and propellant simulation tools:

  • Rocket Engine Specific Impulse Program
Specific Impulse (Isp) is a measure of the “fuel efficiency” of a rocket. The necessary thermodynamic calculations for Isp are performed by a package of text based programs and files which run on MS-DOS or Windows based personal computers.

  • GDP Demo - Author: AED - click to download (570kk Platform: DOS)- or visit the AED Home Page
The Grain Design Programs (GDP) are software packages to design rocket motors and other gas generating devices. Capable of calculating ALL 2-D designs, like star, moonburner, bates, etc. Grains which can not be treated analytically, are treated graphically. This demo is fully functional. Note however that all output results are multiplied by a random factor varying between 0.1 and 10 !!

  • Burnsim
BurnSim is solid propellant rocket motor performance prediction software. In a nutshell, input your motor design and propellant characteristics and BurnSim calculates the Kn through the burn and predicts estimated chamber pressure and motor performance. by Greg Deputy

  • Trajectory simulation:

  • Aerodynamics and stability prediction tools:

  • Aerolab - Author: Hans Olaf Toft - click to download (389k Platform: 32 bit Windows) or visit the DARK download page
Aerolab estimates Drag, Lift and Center of Pressure for rockets flying at velocities up to 8 Mach. It also estimates the rockets Center of Gravity and Moments of Inertia and performs stability analysis within the entire velocity range.

  • VCP - Author: Gary Crowell:Visual Center of Pressure: a software tool for doing Barrowman and extended Barrowman calculations for model/experimental rocket.
VCP is a Barrowman CP/CG stability calculator for Windows using spreadsheet style operation for easy looks at what-if tradeoffs when designing rockets. Graphic display ensures data entry accuracy. Visit the
    XFOIL
XFOIL is an interactive program for the design and analysis of subsonic isolated airfoils.

  • MicroTunnel. Author: Axel Rohde, MicroCFD
MicroTunnel analyzes 2-D subsonic, transonic, and supersonic flow (Mach 0.1 to 3.0) over multi-element configurations on a raster type Cartesian mesh. Flow visualization is provided through color contour plots of local Mach number, density, pressure, and temperature, including streamline plots. Shock waves are easily captured!

  • Mechanical design tools:

  • Cone
A software tool intended for the design of conical parts from paper or sheets of metal. By J. J. van der Sande.

  • Electronics design tools:

  • AutoTRAX EDA
AutoTRAX EDA delivers to your desktop all of the advanced tools needed to implement today’s complex electronic PCB designs. Mult-sheet schematic entry, circuit simulation, rule driven PCB layout, fast autorouting, 3D visualization and Computer Aided Manufacturing tools. Free, no limits!

  • Protel EDA suite 30 days free demo (Platform: 32bit Windows)
Complete EDA suite with PCB layout, Schematics, PLD tools and mixed signal simulation.
This demo is available in separate blocks or as a complete package. Visit the
    Protel WEB site for details.

  • Cadence Orcad EDA suite with Schematic entry, Circuit simulation, PCB design and FPGA tools. Visit the Cadence Orcad WEB site for product DEMO's.

  • GPS and Navigation tools:

  • Map Maker
You can produce professional maps easily from existing or imported data with a few hours practice... Hard copy from the program was excellent, with very fast output from a budget laser printer... Excellent for map making, editing or inputting vector data and GIS analysis.

  • GPS TrackMaker
GPS communication and map software for PC. Author Odilon Ferreira.

  • 3DTracer
3DTracer is a software application that displays tracks recorded from GPS (Global Positioning System) receiver data in full three dimensions.

  • Weather tools:
  • Digital Atmosphere 2000
Digital Atmosphere. Author Tim Vasquez, a former Air Force forecaster and veteran storm chaser.
Digital Atmosphere is powerful weather forecasting software that allows you to create detailed maps of real-time weather for anywhere in the world. It makes extensive use of techniques and algorithms that are comparable and in some cases superior to the National Weather Service's multimillion-dollar Advanced Weather Interactive Processing System. It can run on any 486 or Pentium system, and does not require any type of subscription or recurring costs, using free data from the Internet.
